THE PLATFORM
What is the Jenga Green Library?
The Jenga Green Library is a decision-support and market infrastructure platform developed by the Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS). It provides structured, accessible information on sustainable building materials, technologies and services enabling procurement teams, developers and project managers to identify compliant, cost-effective and low-carbon building products available in the Kenyan market.
The Library brings together product specifications, sustainability attributes, supplier information and standards alignment in one searchable platform, supporting informed decision-making at the point where construction procurement decisions are actually made.
Why this matters
Across Kenya’s construction sector, policy frameworks and financing initiatives for sustainable building are advancing, but implementation at project level remains fragmented. Procurement teams lack clear references for low-carbon materials. Suppliers of sustainable products struggle with limited market visibility. And material-level decisions are rarely connected to financing criteria or compliance systems. The Jenga Green Library exists to close this gap – providing structured, accessible information at the point where construction decisions are actually made.
Discover our Story
KGBS recognised that Kenya’s construction industry, which accounts for 5.6% of GDP, lacked a central resource for sustainable building materials. Procurement teams were making material decisions based on fragmented information, with no structured way to identify low-carbon, standards-aligned products available in the local market. The first version of the Library was developed by KGBS with the support of FSD Kenya, establishing a foundational database of sustainable building materials and technologies. That experience confirmed the growing demand for structured material information and the need for a more integrated decision-support platform.
Today the Library lists products and services from over 45 companies, more than half of which are Kenyan MSMEs. It has served over 650 users and contributed to real outcomes. The Library now positions itself as Jenga Green V2: a decision-support and market infrastructure platform for sustainable construction in Kenya, aligned with national initiatives in Green Public Procurement, industrial decarbonisation and green finance.
