Renewable Energy Turnkey Solution
Description
Enkai Limited: Renewable Energy Turnkey Solution
Enkai Limited is a 100% Kenyan renewable energy company that provides turnkey solar PV solutions for commercial and industrial buildings at zero capital outlay. Through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Lease agreements, Enkai finances, designs, installs, owns, operates, and maintains rooftop solar systems, the client simply pays a monthly tariff per kilowatt-hour of solar energy consumed, at rates below the Kenya Power grid tariff. Building owners reduce electricity costs from day one without committing capital or taking on technical risk. Enkai’s marquee project is AAR Hospital in Nairobi – the first hospital in Kenya to operate under a solar PPA, with a 301 kWp system generating over 400,000 kWh per year and offsetting over 450 tonnes of CO₂, financed by the IFC. All installations use Tier 1 equipment (Jinko panels, SMA and Huawei inverters) through established EPC partners.
Key Features:
- Zero capital outlay: client pays per kWh consumed under PPA or Lease (10–20 year terms)
- Full turnkey scope: feasibility, engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning, monitoring, O&M, insurance, spare parts, and performance guarantee – all included
- Target market: commercial and industrial buildings with high daytime energy demand
- System range: under 150 kWp to over 3,000 kWp
- Equipment: Tier 1 (Jinko panels, SMA/Huawei inverters)
- Certifications: LEED, EDGE, Green Star, Certified Energy Manager (AEE)
- Reference projects: AAR Hospital (301 kWp), ICRC Nairobi (150 kWp), Hydro Aluminium Juja (127 kWp), Carton Experts (118 kWp), Safari Centre Naivasha (115 kWp), Grange Park Water Karen (80.5 kWp)
Sustainability Features:
- Directly displaces grid electricity with rooftop solar, reducing building operational carbon emissions – AAR Hospital alone offsets 450+ tonnes CO₂ annually
- Supports EDGE, LEED, and Green Star SA energy credits without the building owner funding the system
- Zero capital outlay model removes the affordability barrier that prevents many Kenyan C&I buildings from adopting renewable energy
- Full lifecycle O&M responsibility prevents the performance degradation common with unmanaged owner-purchased systems
